Not yet. The FlexBeam is currently classed as a wellness device as defined by  the FDA document “General Wellness: Policy for Low Risk Devices – Guidance for Industry and Food and Drug Administration Staff”.

Both the FlexBeam and far infrared saunas emit infra-red light. However, saunas emit light of a longer wavelength, typically above 3000nm, so the healing effect comes from the heat output rather than the light output. Check out our blog post for more information.

No. Light can’t penetrate well through fabric so you’ll get the maximum benefits using the FlexBEAM directly on the skin.

You can use the FlexBEAM any time. The session will leave you feeling more relaxed and balanced. Some people may find that they are very energised after a session. If you are experiencing this then you may prefer not to use the device late at night.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can be treated using SAD lamps. These are full spectrum lamps with more wavelengths of light than the red and near infrared light that the FlexBeam uses. 

There is growing evidence that red light therapy is an effective therapy for depression and anxiety, some of the main symptoms of SAD.

You may begin to notice the effects immediately or within the first few days. In some cases, like if you are seeking support for a long term problem, then it may take a few weeks.

If you extend the exposure time, you may diminish the effect of the biphasic dose response to red light therapy.  

Our guides have been developed with optimal timing, more is not necessarily better in the case of red light therapy.

Yes, but we don’t recommend placing the FlexBeam on the head. Due to systemic effects, using red light therapy on another area of the body, such as the gut, may have a positive effect on headaches.

Although there are no known side effects of red light therapy, for some long-term issues you may notice a temporary increase of your symptoms as your body starts to heal. This will usually only last for a short time.

The FlexBEAM is safe to use in most situations but there are some times when you need to be careful. 

If you are light sensitive take care and begin by shortening program times. 

Consult your healthcare practitioner prior to use if you:

  • are pregnant 
  • are currently undergoing chemo/radiotherapy with active cancerous tumours
  • have thrombo-embolism or bleeding  
  • have any acute systemic infections
  • have a heart condition

Never look directly into the lights during use, powerful invisible infrared light is being emitted. We’ve provided safety goggles to wear if you are using the device within 30cm of the eye. 

A full set of warnings and cautions can be found in the FlexBEAM Instructions for Use that come with your FlexBEAM. Read these warnings and cautions prior to use.

Red light therapy is considered to be safe. Similar to sunlight, photons of light give you energy and improve wellbeing. 

Red light therapy has been used since 1967 and has become more widespread since the ‘90s with advances in LED technology.

There are thousands of clinical studies that support the safety and effectiveness of red light therapy, including by organisations like NASA.

In 2018 the FDA even added certain classes of red light therapy devices as ‘exempt’ due to the inherent safety of the technology.

No. The FlexBEAM cannot burn the skin. This is because the therapeutic effect from the FlexBEAM is due to light, not heat.

Clean the FlexBEAM when the mains power is off. 

It is only necessary to clean the device when it becomes dirty. To clean simply use a damp cloth to wipe it off or use an alcohol wipe.  Do not use other cleaning solutions or products that contain ammonium chloride as it may damage the housing. Never spray cleaners directly on the device, as this may cause cracking of the plastic.

Orders and Returns (5)

FlexBEAM has a 2 year warranty with the following conditions:

Please contact Recharge in case of product failure. The battery is the only user serviceable part of this product. All warnings, cautions, and instructions contained in this manual must be followed to ensure full warranty coverage. To obtain service, contact Recharge (+66 649 989 836 or contact@personalrecharge.com), or an approved distributor, for a Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) number. Without the RGA, your device may be stopped at customs. 

Send the entire unit, with all accessories (if applicable), packed in the original box. Freight and insurance is prepaid to the address provided to you by Recharge. Include in the package a copy of your original invoice and a note describing the problem. Be sure to include your return address, phone number and/or email address, if available. Recharge will not be responsible for damage incurred due to improper packaging or shipment. Recharge warrants to the original purchaser that each new FlexBEAM is free of defects in workmanship and materials under normal use for a period of two years from original purchase date, except for the battery, and carrying case if provided. During the warranty period, the sole obligation of Recharge shall be, at the option of Recharge, to repair or replace the FlexBEAM without charge. If the FlexBEAM is outside the warranty coverage period any requested repairs or replacement charges will be invoiced to the customer. If Recharge determines there is a defect covered by this warranty, the repaired or replaced product will be shipped back, freight and insurance prepaid. 

If Recharge determines, in its judgment, that the product does not Product Specifications contain defective workmanship or materials, Recharge will return the product and invoice the customer for the repairs, return freight and insurance charges. The warranty is voided immediately if the product has been subjected to abuse, accidental damage, damage in transit, negligence, acts of nature, or damage resulting from failure to follow operating instructions, or alteration/disassembly by anyone other than Recharge. Recharge shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages, lost profits or medical expenses caused by any defect, failure, malfunction, or otherwise of the product, regardless of the form in which any legal or equitable action may be brought against Recharge (such as contract, negligence, or otherwise). In no event shall Recharge liability under any cause of action relating to the product exceed the purchase price of the product. Repair or replacement of the device under this warranty will not extend the original warranty time period.

No. The FlexBeam has been designed to have very low EMF emissions. Mains electricity is a major source of non-native EMF. Since the FlexBeam runs from a battery there is less non-native EMF output.

Near-infrared light is not in the visible light spectrum and is not seen by the human eye. You will only  see the red lights when FlexBEAM is on but don’t worry, the infrared light is there and doing its job.

The typical lifespan of the FlexBEAM battery is 600+ charge cycles, or around 9000 sessions. If you charge once per day then the battery should last more than 2 years.

This depends on the program you are using. Different Modes require different amounts of energy, so your battery will last longer if you are using less energy-demanding Modes, and the other way around.

Based on our testing, a fully charged FlexBEAM can be used:

Preset 1: Red Glow16 times
Preset 2: Dual Wave11 times
Preset 3: Infra Deep9 times

A combination of Modes can influence the number of applications you can get before you need to recharge your FlexBEAM.

It takes approximately two hours to fully recharge a completely empty battery.
